The Tottenham defender found the net twice as Tottenham prolonged their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and handed Everton their first defeat at their new home.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left Goodison Park behind after more than a century at the end of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman pounced twice from corners in the first half to place their strong form at jeopardy, and they were failed to mount a comeback before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - headed home a third to put the game to bed.

Jake O'Brien thought he had equalized the scores a short while after the defender's opener, glancing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

Beto, meanwhile, failed to convert a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of excellent saves to ensure the London club went five away games without defeat in the Premier League.

But the VAR stepped in, advising Craig Pawson to check the score on the screen and the referee decided that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win moves the manager's team up to third in the Premier League, a handful of points off north London rivals and leaders the Gunners.

The Merseyside club remain 14th and are six points clear of the drop zone.

Spurs breakdown: The defender fulfils duties at both ends of pitch

After a uninspiring weekday performance in the Champions League against Monaco, where they managed a mere attempts on target, Frank opted for Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The summer signing was unable to influence the game before being replaced for Richarlison after 60 minutes on the field, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the end.

Centre-back Van de Ven converted into an attacking force to be feared.

Spurs' opening strike came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with the midfielder directing the ball toward the six-yard box for an unmarked the defender to score.

And the captain - filling in as skipper in the Argentine's unavailability - notched his next goal in added time as he rose above Jordan Pickford to head home.

Van de Ven was equally impressive in defensive duties, combining well with his defensive colleague as the pair dealt excellently with the numerous deliveries thrown their way by Everton.

Everton analysis: Everton missing finishing touch

The club's new home had been a fortress, but it seems the novelty may have worn off slightly and fans flocked to the gates after Sarr's third for Spurs.

The break in the team's winning streak at home will not be a massive concern for the manager, but their attacking woes are.

The forward and the other striker - the Toffees' two recognised centre-forwards - had netted just a single goal between them before Sunday's match.

And they were failed to add to that poor tally on a damp and dreary evening on in Liverpool.

The striker's form was summed up when he chose to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from close range, even with having room and opportunity to readjust for a simpler attempt that would have challenged the keeper.

The substitute, as well, was unable to influence the game after replacing Beto in the second half.

It was not for a shortage of chance. Most of the home side's offensive moves came through Grealish and the forward, who tirelessly delivered dangerous balls into the Tottenham box.

The Toffees: The team travel to the Stadium of Light in the Premier League on Monday, 3 November at 8 PM.

Tottenham: Spurs travel to St James' Park on late October for their fourth-round Carabao Cup tie against the Magpies.
