Reports indicate that original stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.

Lawrence and Hutcherson will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Industry whispers indicate their cameos will likely occur in a brief glimpse ahead, given that the original saga concluded with their characters settled into family life.

The Source Material

Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It acts as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed nearly all the previous films in the series.

The film's story are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.
